Civil Society, Grassroots Actors Push for Greater Youth Inclusion in Governance

NAIROBI,Kenya – Civil society organizations and grassroots actors under the Civic Voice initiative convened once again in a continued effort to strengthen youth participation in governance and electoral processes, signaling growing momentum toward a coordinated and youth-centered civic engagement movement.

The meeting built on previous discussions and reflected significant progress as stakeholders worked to deepen collaboration and establish a common framework for collective action. Participants engaged in extensive deliberations aimed at shaping a consortium that would champion meaningful youth inclusion in democratic and governance spaces.

Central to the discussions were the proposed consortium’s goals, the guiding principles that will anchor collaboration, and the strategic objectives necessary to ensure long-term impact. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of building a platform grounded in shared values, inclusivity, accountability, and grassroots-driven approaches.

The convening also focused on defining thematic priority areas that will guide joint programming and advocacy efforts. Participants explored key issues affecting young people and discussed strategies to ensure that future interventions reflect the lived realities, aspirations, and challenges facing youth across communities.

Through the engagement, members worked toward sharpening a shared understanding of the role civil society and grassroots organizations can play in amplifying young people’s voices in governance and electoral spaces. The discussions highlighted the need for sustained collaboration, coordinated advocacy, and innovative approaches that place youth at the center of democratic participation.

Stakeholders noted that young people continue to face barriers to meaningful engagement in governance processes despite making up a significant portion of the population. As a result, participants stressed the importance of creating structures and partnerships that not only encourage youth participation during elections but also promote continuous civic engagement beyond electoral cycles.

The convening ultimately reflected growing cohesion among participating organizations and reinforced a collective commitment to advancing a unified approach to civic and electoral engagement. Organizers expressed optimism that the ongoing collaboration will strengthen advocacy efforts and contribute to building more inclusive and participatory democratic processes for young people.
