KIAMBU, Kenya – The National People’s Convention 2025 convened citizens from across the country in a historic gathering aimed at reclaiming people’s power and shaping Kenya’s democratic future. The event, held under the theme “Agenda Setting to Reclaim People’s Power,” brought renewed focus to national unity, civic freedoms, and youth leadership in the face of shrinking democratic space.
The convention sought to build a transformative consensus that would steer the nation toward sustainable peace, equity, and democratic renewal. Delegates emphasized that Kenya stands at a critical moment, where collective action and people-centered governance are essential to addressing longstanding injustices and restoring public trust in institutions.

A solemn moment of remembrance marked the convention as participants honoured comrades who lost their lives in the struggle for justice and freedom. Their sacrifices, speakers noted, are the foundation upon which today’s civic movements stand, a reminder of the courage required to confront repression and demand accountability.
A significant highlight of this year’s convention was the central role of young people. Youth leaders, activists, and scholars examined the growing importance of young voices in reclaiming civic space and shaping Kenya’s governance landscape. With freedoms under pressure, attendees underscored that the country’s democratic transformation increasingly depends on the energy, creativity, and resilience of its youth.

The National People’s Convention 2025 was anchored on three major pillars:
Reclaiming Civic Space and Freedoms, focusing on the protection of constitutional rights and civic participation
People-Centered Governance, calling for justice, equity, and accountability across public institutions; and
From Resistance to Renewal, a commitment to building a united movement capable of steering Kenya toward a fairer, more democratic future.

As the convention concluded, organizers affirmed that the collective power of citizens, especially the youth, remains Kenya’s strongest tool for driving change. The gathering reinforced a clear message: reclaiming people’s power is not just a moment but a movement, charting the path toward national renewal.
