NAIROBI,Kenya – Civil society organizations and grassroots actors convened for a strategic meeting to officially launch the Kenya Youth Civic Engagement Consortium (KYCEC), a platform dedicated to strengthening youth participation in governance, democracy, and electoral processes following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Convened by Civic Voice, the meeting marked a major milestone in a collaborative process that has brought together diverse stakeholders committed to advancing meaningful youth engagement in public affairs. With the MoU now signed, partners reaffirmed their commitment to working collectively through a coordinated and sustainable platform that will drive joint action and long-term impact.
The Kenya Youth Civic Engagement Consortium seeks to address longstanding barriers that limit young people’s participation in governance and decision-making. Through joint advocacy, civic education, policy engagement, research, and movement building, the platform aims to amplify youth voices and create opportunities for young people to meaningfully influence the policies and processes that shape their lives.

Participants discussed the consortium’s governance structures, partnership principles, and collaboration mechanisms that will guide its implementation. They also aligned on shared priorities and strategic objectives to ensure future interventions are responsive to the lived realities, aspirations, and needs of young people across the country.
A key outcome of the meeting was the adoption of thematic priority areas that will guide the Kenya Youth Civic Engagement Consortium’s work. These include strengthening civic participation, promoting democratic governance, enhancing electoral engagement, fostering accountability, and supporting youth leadership at both community and national levels. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of coordinated action in addressing systemic challenges facing young people and creating more inclusive spaces for civic and political participation.
The meeting also underscored the value of collaboration among civil society organizations, community-based organizations, and youth-led initiatives. By leveraging their collective expertise, resources, and networks, consortium members aim to increase the effectiveness and reach of initiatives that empower young people and strengthen democratic institutions.
With the MoU signed and the Kenya Youth Civic Engagement Consortium now formally established, stakeholders expressed optimism about its potential to become a unified platform for youth-centered governance and civic engagement. Beyond formalizing the partnership, the agreement represents a shared commitment to advancing democratic participation, accountability, and inclusive leadership through collective action.

The initiative comes at a time when meaningful youth participation remains essential to strengthening governance and democratic resilience. Through the Kenya Youth Civic Engagement Consortium, partners seek to create lasting opportunities for young people to engage, lead, and shape public policy and decision-making processes.
As implementation begins, the Kenya Youth Civic Engagement Consortium is poised to usher in a new phase of collaboration, one anchored in shared purpose, collective responsibility, and a common vision of empowered young people actively shaping Kenya’s democratic future.
